REASONABLE DOUBT book review by Staycia Y

“Mark Anthony creates outstanding characters that leave you on the edge of your seat.”

The movie I saw is called Reasonable Doubt  by Mark Anthony. The main characters are Katrina Easely, Snipes, Alexis, Warrant, Candace, and Chase and the parents of Katrina Easley.  Some of the reasons why I think people should read this book is because it shows you how people should be careful when it comes to who they pick in life. And the fast life is not what it is. Some times you have to choose what you want in life and don’t just go for the looks. This book has a great main character, violent scenes, and language I can relate to.

      The first thing I like about this book because of the character Katrina Easley who is a   young woman going to school and trying to get a degree. She lives with a roommate named Candace who is from New York and takes little country girl Katrina under her wings. Even so Katrina makes mistakes and still falls for Snipes even though Candace discourages her. “No you don’t need to her permission to speak to me. I’m a big girl I am speak for myself…..” Katrina and Snipes got together one weekend and they were drunk, Katrina had on some tight jeans and Snipes was turned on by her. So when he took her back to her dorm she telling him goodbye and goodnight but he wanted to walk her to her room where he forced himself on her and raped her. Despite this, Katrina continues to be interested in him – even blaming herself for the rape. In the end when Snipes is out of the picture she realizes her mistake and that she has more strength than she realized, “I made it despite all that you put me through and took me through. I made it.”

        Another thing I like about this book is the violent scenes because some people go through these types of abusive everyday this movie makes them very realistic, for example;

The wind had been knocked out of me when I hit the wall. I was still gasping for air trying to catch my breath, but at the same time I was heated. I couldn’t believe what was happening. But with all of the drama I immediately went to fighting mode. Another example of the violent scenes is when Katrina and Snipes went out and Snipes was mingling with other females. Katrina just sat there just looking but some guy came up to her and tried to holler at her the guy named D dot gave Katrina his card to call him. But Katrina was not interested in him. So as Katrina and Snipes got back to the hotel Snipes found the card and he was getting all mad and stuff. So as she was taking a shower he bust through the door and just started beating her up. “Are you cheating on me?” Katrina was terrified out of her mind.

       What really made me like this book is the dialogue. I can relate to the characters’ language. I’m so use of hearing this kind of language and I can relate to this book a lot more than I can with any other books. For example “Katrina!

What the hell wrong with you? You hear me talking to you, right?”

“What, Snipes? What?” I asked as I picked my head up off the table and wiped some cold out of my eyes. “Shorty rights there, our waitress! Watchu think about her?” See in my hood I hear that king of language all day everyday. And I love how people talk when they trying to holler at other girls.

        The critic of Reasonable Doubt says this book is “very amazing”. I have to agree because I love this movie. If you like books that have violent scenes and very explicit language and great main characters then this book is for you. It will appeal to all readers and I recommend it for anyone who like things like that in a movie.
