Day by Day Armageddon

“If we can just hold them off a little longer” says the unnamed main character as swarms of viscous bleed thirsty zombies were on the other side of the door. This story, told in first person journal format, kicks off with the narrator (an unnamed U.S. Naval officer) making a New Year’s resolution to keep a journal. As the days progress, he comments on his life and various problems he’s noticing in the news, mostly about a mysterious disease outbreak in China. His life gets even worse when he finds out that some signs of the outbreak have been spotted in Maryland. He is torn between joining his fellow officers at a base camp and staying at home by himself. He chooses isolation.

From the start of the book I could not put it down, I swear I read it in 2 days non stop. In the beginning it start off as him at his parents house in a rural area getting ready to go back home after St. Patrick day. He was hearing some rumors about something happening in china and didn’t know exactly what it was. He called his commanding officer and asked what was going on and they said not to worry. A few days passed when he heard something terrible had happened to a group of marines in china that went over there to find out what happened. They sent footage of the chaos that ravaged the streets, something like the dead walking trying to eat everybody. It was all over the news in a matter of hours. The first sign of the disease spreading over here was at a medical base in Maryland, a patient had BITE the doctor and seemed like he had rabid symptoms. It quickly spread all across the United States and to the main characters city. He had to go to a meeting at his squadrons base and was told he had to stay their but he chose to go back him in isolation. He made a good choice, later on in the story they were all massacred.

“I need to clean my guns”, all 6 of them he cleaned every day to make sure if he needed to use them they would work. He is determined to “wait out” the plague, but the government fails to contain the epidemic, retreating to hidden bunkers, and leaving the panic-stricken civilian population to fend for themselves. The narrator teams up with his only surviving neighbor, an engineer named John and his dog, who is good at alerting them to the presence of zombies (a little too good, as they have to keep her quiet most of the time to prevent her barking from alerting the undead to their presence). The growing number of zombies outside forces them to decide to get out of the small Texas town (near Austin) where they were holed up. Along the way, they encounter some other survivors, military, undead, and a variety of other realistic hazards that one would expect to find in a post-apocalyptic world.

One thing I really enjoyed about this book is the constant state of panic, that if they don’t do something right they might be end up “dead”. And I like it because its different than all the other zombie post apocalyptic books I have read, none of them were in a narrative journal form. Another thing that made it interesting was the abnormal amount of typos and punctuation mistakes that were in the book. I’m not sure if it was intentional or not but it made it more realist as if he was actually on the run from zombies and couldn’t have all the grammar correct. I would like all zombie lovers to read this book because its not the normal undead book that you will read. 10 out of 10!

“Makes you want to duck your head”-Dan Abnett

A book set into the far future. The Imperium of man rules the heavens with an iron fist. In a battle to reclaim one of their shrine worlds known as Kathur from the hands of Chaos the Imperium sends some of its most powerful Imperial Guard Regiments. One of those, and probably the most powerful, is the Cadian Shock troopers. With them and the many other armies with them there’s no way they can lose.

At first they are just dealing with a plague that causes people to become undead, nothing new on the Cadian front. But then Chaos Marines of the Death Guard Legion appear and it seems there is more to the shrine world then some holy relics and dead saints. But I’m not going to spoil what happens. If you wish to know you’ll just have to get the book and read it yourself.

For me it is a book worth reading. The author is new but damn did he make an entrance into the world of Warhammer 40k. This book was well written and exactly what I would expect from the Black Library books. Vivid, right to the point, comedic at times, and plenty of action. It feels like you’re in the book. It makes you want to come back for more.

In my expert opinion on these books I give it 8.5 out of 10. Remember to go to your nearest book store and purchase Cadian Blood by Aaron Dembski-Bowden.

“I was left back when I was twelve because I had a baby for my father.”

Nothing prepares you for the REALITY of this book. Good form of drama and life as well as entertainment this shocking surprising and absolutely unforgettable story of an obese, illiterate, pregnant black Harlem teen (Claireece Precious Jones) is one that you hope will not be ignored or seen as too difficult because it should not be missed.

The first thing I liked about the book push is it opens with her writing as if it was a journal and shows her illiteracy by printing as she would “my baby got down syndrome” and “I’m pregnant from my father”. Difficult challenges were her being raped by her father and mother and being forced to eat when she was full to the point of passing out And it will also move you with this illiterate young mother going to an alternative school for her to learn how to read, write, and do for her and children.

I Also liked how it showed so much graphic and detail like when her mother forced her to eat then while she was asleep the mother would molest her. I loved how it shows as well as tells u that this 16 year old girl is going through a serious struggle with both life home and at school other then being 16 in the ninth grade. It tells the physical and mental abuse the she was put through on a daily basis.

The reality is something that made me enjoy the book. For example Precious was raped by her own father. That’s real it’s not fake nor is it something easy for anyone to share it happens so much but people like to be blind towards it. She was 16 years old pregnant with her second child. There is a part in the book where she is class and these boys were being disrespectful and she liked the teacher so she calmed then and was there for the teacher even though she wasn’t learning anything in the class.

I have to say because of the emotions you feel when you’re reading it is so unimaginable id have to give it a personal two thumbs up. If you like books that show you a close look on the life of children in abusive households this is an excellent book for you or anyone that wants to read an inspiring book of reality of abuse and rape and I’d give it a five star rating.

By 1980, New Jersey’s notorious death house had been revived as a lover’s alcove, but Rubin “Hurricane” Carter still wanted no part of it. The author’s name is James S.Hirsch he is a former staff writer for the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. He is currently working on a book about the Tulsa race riot of 1921. He lives in Needham, Massachusetts. The main Characters of this book are Rubin Carter, John Artis, Cathy Martin, Lesra. The strengths of this book are survival, love, guilt, rage, because this book is based on real life reality and how people can be when you are in prison.

There are things I like about this book and the first thing is this book jumps out at you it has its on style of pulling people’s attention. An example of this is when Rubin, which is known as Hurricane, tells about his whole life from the beginning to the end. He tells you about hoe prison can be and how you can be blamed for something you didn’t do. Black boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter and a young acquaintance, John Artis were wrongly convicted of triple murder by an all-white jury in Paterson, New Jersey. Another example of this part is when hurricane pleaded innocent and the jury tried to find him guilty. This book is a very serious book. This book really relate to me because its talks about how people do you when you try and do the right thing.

Another thing I like about this book is the boxing. For example of this is when hurricane started boxing and found out he was better than he thought he was. Hurricane tried to take it to the top but it didn’t work he missed out on the opportunity of being a famous boxer. “I took right punch then a left punch and he went down”. Another example of this quote is when hurricane won. Hurricane beat all of his opponents he came in contact with he was going to be the greatest but he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. “Hurricane is unstoppable he might be the greatest of all time said his trainer. “We are trying to get him a fight with Muhammad but he is scared.”

The main character’s attitude is what made me really enjoy this book for example, when Hurricane went to jail for a long time for a murder he didn’t commit he stayed humble for awhile. He was blamed for a murder case he didn’t do. The judge didn’t care about hurricane being a boxer at all. The people were very prejudice back in the old days and they didn’t really care about black people. Hurricane didn’t let that stop him from getting out of prison. Lesra Martin kept in touch with him she didn’t stop writing him and meeting him in prison. Hurricane finely wrote a book about his life and the things that happen to him. Many people contributed to his book, but I owe special thanks to three individuals. My agent, Todd Shuster, called me in June of 1998 to tell me that Rubin “Hurricane” Carter might be willing to work with an author on a book about his life.

The things I like about this book is Hurricane don’t give up. I will not let them keep me in this cell for a long time I will get out”.

“Mark Anthony creates outstanding characters that leave you on the edge of your seat.”

The movie I saw is called Reasonable Doubt by Mark Anthony. The main characters are Katrina Easely, Snipes, Alexis, Warrant, Candace, and Chase and the parents of Katrina Easley. Some of the reasons why I think people should read this book is because it shows you how people should be careful when it comes to who they pick in life. And the fast life is not what it is. Some times you have to choose what you want in life and don’t just go for the looks. This book has a great main character, violent scenes, and language I can relate to.

The first thing I like about this book because of the character Katrina Easley who is a young woman going to school and trying to get a degree. She lives with a roommate named Candace who is from New York and takes little country girl Katrina under her wings. Even so Katrina makes mistakes and still falls for Snipes even though Candace discourages her. “No you don’t need to her permission to speak to me. I’m a big girl I am speak for myself…..” Katrina and Snipes got together one weekend and they were drunk, Katrina had on some tight jeans and Snipes was turned on by her. So when he took her back to her dorm she telling him goodbye and goodnight but he wanted to walk her to her room where he forced himself on her and raped her. Despite this, Katrina continues to be interested in him – even blaming herself for the rape. In the end when Snipes is out of the picture she realizes her mistake and that she has more strength than she realized, “I made it despite all that you put me through and took me through. I made it.”

        Another thing I like about this book is the violent scenes because some people go through these types of abusive everyday this movie makes them very realistic, for example;

The wind had been knocked out of me when I hit the wall. I was still gasping for air trying to catch my breath, but at the same time I was heated. I couldn’t believe what was happening. But with all of the drama I immediately went to fighting mode. Another example of the violent scenes is when Katrina and Snipes went out and Snipes was mingling with other females. Katrina just sat there just looking but some guy came up to her and tried to holler at her the guy named D dot gave Katrina his card to call him. But Katrina was not interested in him. So as Katrina and Snipes got back to the hotel Snipes found the card and he was getting all mad and stuff. So as she was taking a shower he bust through the door and just started beating her up. “Are you cheating on me?” Katrina was terrified out of her mind.

What really made me like this book is the dialogue. I can relate to the characters’ language. I’m so use of hearing this kind of language and I can relate to this book a lot more than I can with any other books. For example “Katrina!

What the hell wrong with you? You hear me talking to you, right?”

“What, Snipes? What?” I asked as I picked my head up off the table and wiped some cold out of my eyes. “Shorty rights there, our waitress! Watchu think about her?” See in my hood I hear that king of language all day everyday. And I love how people talk when they trying to holler at other girls.

The critic of Reasonable Doubt says this book is “very amazing”. I have to agree because I love this movie. If you like books that have violent scenes and very explicit language and great main characters then this book is for you. It will appeal to all readers and I recommend it for anyone who like things like that in a movie.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is about a 13 year old girl named Melinda entering Merryweather High School who gets raped by one of the upper classman. She wanted to be popular and her best friends older sister was in high school , therefore Melinda goes to all these parties with her best friends sister. Summer comes around and high school classmates throw a huge party. Melinda wanted to fit in so she started joining in on drinking. One of the upperclassman, started to talk to Melinda and he ends up taking advantage of her. A huge controversy breaks out between other students because Melinda speaks out about the rape. The story line continues to explain Melinda’s bad experiences, so she speaks to help her best friend who is later in danger.

First thing I liked about this book was how realistic it was and explains experiences like this and it shows how much courage it takes for these people who got raped to speak out. It’s hard to imagine how somebody can keep everything in without saying a word for a great deal of time. Imagine how much pain and suffering you go through? An example of this is when Melinda has to go to a janitor’s room just to think straight.

The second thing I liked was how it was relating to high school students. That getting raped can happen to anyone of any age. You must always think before drinking something at a friends hang out or party of any sort because you never know what is in it. I’ve heard of many situations just like this all over the news but this book really narrows down a lot of information that’s really gets you thinking.

The third thing I liked was how Melinda actually spoke out about what happened to her. Many people who find themselves in this position don’t talk about it ever or say a single word about because they’re scared of what people might say or just to traumatized. An example of this was when Melinda didn’t say anything because she was scared that people wouldn’t believe her and they didn’t at first but she still kept her head up and didn’t hold back that must take a lot of courage

I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend to high school students. Its very realistic to real world situations and keeps you focused reading as soon as you glaze your eyes on it. I hope you really look forward to reading this book you wont regret it.

Slum dog Millionaire by Danny Boyle. The main characters are Jamal His older brother, Salim and Latika. The movie is about this young boy Jamal. when Jamal was little his mother was murdered, that forced him and his brother Salim to live in the slums alone when Jamal gets older and he enter the most popular T.V show in India who goes on this show ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’, when Jamal is asked a series of questions he has flashbacks of when he was younger and how he learned the answers, after answering them all correctly Jamal is accused of cheating, but they found that he wasn’t. Jamal originally went on the T.V show hoping that the girl he loved was watching. The strengths are the characters, the theme and the

The first thing I liked was the love each character had for each other the love Jamal had for Latika and the love Jamal and Salim shared. Jamal never gave up looking for her. I mean he could have gave up the first time separated but he didn’t Jamal had no idea if Latika was still alive but he couldn’t take that chance he kept looking for her and he found her alive and well he wanted to be with her take her away from all the bad things but he couldn’t not for long, and when he lost her he looked and looked for her again. Also the love him and Salim had Jamal may have not agreed with the things his brother did to him when they were younger, but he did what he thought was best for him and Jamal, and in the end Salim died so Jamal would be happy.

The second thing I liked about the movie was the theme or the message it was sending to the viewers, the message I believe was that no matter where you come from how you grew up you can do anything, whatever you put your mind to you can do it, like Jamal he grew up in the slums not much education and he won the million dollars, another theme is you shouldn’t ever give up on something you love ever, cause you never know it might be worth the looking and the waiting.

The thing I liked the most about this movie was the wat it was made I ike how it started off when they were young it gave a sense of how they grew up and how they lived. I liked how they went back in time to his memories and they went in order they didn’t go from when he six to thirteen, it was very easy to follow. I also liked how they focused on all three characters and not just one.

“D: It’s written” Slum dog millionaire is a terrific movie, I recommend this movie to everyone should watch it. Its very touching and unforgettable. If you like movie that are sad, romantic and action this is the movie for you I pretty sure you’ll enjoy watching it .

Ana’s story by Jenna Bush is a book written about this young girl Ana. The book goes on to tell about her life thing she had to overcome: Ana has aids it was passed down from her mother Ana’s mother died when she was a little girl so she had to live with her abusive grandmother living there Ana was forced to keep her being infected with aids a secret. Ana is tired of the abusive and leaves but is soon sent to a detention center shortly after they transfer Ana to a place for people with aids, while there Ana meets this guy who also has aids, Ana gets pregnant and has a baby, the baby was born without aids. Ana moves to raise her baby, and she meets this new guy who loves her and her baby. Shortly after Ana sadly dies because of aids. The strengths of the book are one Ana’s strength. Two it was very informal and it was also very touching and real. The strengths of the book are: Ana’s determination, it was informative, the way it was written.

The first thing I liked about this book is the courage, determination and the happiness that Ana had. Ana wasn’t going to live in abuse for the rest of her life so she took a chance and moved away from her grandmother no matter how hard it was to leave her younger sister, after Ana left she had t over come some difficult things going to a detention center not seeing her sister, then movie finding love and losing it then finding it again, she created life Ana tried her hardest to provide a good life for her and her child, she was determined to be happy and that’s exactly what she found. “I want to be in a house without shame. I am tired of the bruises that cover my body and the darkness in my heart. I wish my parents were here. Protect me, Dios.” -Ana

The second thing I liked a bout this book is the awareness it causes and how its not just a story about a girl with aids. The book is a nonstop lessons on aids, showing you what most people with aids go through the stereo types they face and the life long problems they face it also that you don’t always have to be a victim, there’s always hope but only if your willing to give it . At the end of the book there’s a few pages about information on AID/HIV and child abuse and sexual abuse, I thought it was very sweet and useful.

The thing I liked the most about this book was how Jenna Bush wrote it. The book wasn’t really hard to read or complicated, in fact it was easy and very understanding. It had many chapters but they weren’t very long I think she intended it to be mainly for young adults, I liked how it wasn’t like every other biography and instead of just telling about Ana she showed Ana , not only with pictures but with words. I also liked how at the end of the book she had a few pages about AIDS/HIV.

“Ana didn’t die because of AIDS, she lived because of AIDS” –Jenna Bush .If you like book that are about real life people going through real life things then this is the book for you. Ana’s Story was an amazing book it was very exciting and it will appeal to all readers and I recommend this book to young adults and adults as well, you won’t regret reading it, this is the kind of book that stays with you. You won’t want to put it down.

There is no escape for Ben McKee. For weeks, he’s covered the bruises on his body. He’s even

Lied to his teachers and new friends at Bluford high school. But the trouble in Ben’s house isn’t going away. And if he doesn’t act soon, it could swallow him and his mother forever.

Ben and his mother Geneva was staying with Ben’ s grandma in Ben liked staying there then one day Geneva came in the house in said that she was getting married in they are moving out in the grandma didn’t like it because she already had knew that Larry was a bad, Larry is the person she’s marring. When they had moved in to they new apartment Ben and Larry was their unpacking things Geneva was at work so Larry told Ben to never come down stair why he in the living room in one day been came down stairs in Larry started beating on him in and different nights he beat on Geneva because she won’t give him money.

The first thing I liked about this is that Ben took up for himself and tried to take up for his mom. In when Larry was beating on Geneva, Ben tried to help his mom. Abuse is what happens in this book. Ben also went threw things when he was at school people use to pick on him and make fun of him because how he dressed and how he looked with those busies on his face. Another one is when Aunt Fay was helping Ben with school.

The second thing I liked about this book is when Mr. Graham paused and stared at Ben in his eyes for several seconds. And told Ben he remind him of himself when he was a little boy. Another example is when Ben had asked Mr. Graham can he work with him in Mr. Graham say yes. I really liked that Mr. Graham had helped Ben out on things by given him a job and letting him eat dinner at his house.

Fourth thing is that its something that really made me enjoy this book because I love reading things about abuse that’s something am very interesting in when Ben got up them stairs Larry kicked him in the back and slammed him against the wall.

The critic of this book “Search for safety” I have agree that this book is really good and very interesting if you read this book you wouldn’t won’t to put the book down I recommend that people should read the book Search for Safety.

“Right now, the world needs a hero”. Ronnie Barnhardt (Seth Rogan) is a Bi-Polar mall cop. He is head of security at Forest Ridge Mall. Ronnie Barnhardt secretly wants to become a police officer. When a pervert runs through the mall parking lot flashing women, Ronnie looks at it as his chance to prove himself worthy. Detective Harrison (Ray Liotta) comes to Forest Ridge mall to investigate the case. I think this movie is so great because it shows real life emotions and situations and doesn’t put up a front about it. I appreciate Ronnie Barnhardt’s actions in this movie. This movie was directed by Jody Hill. Observe and report has a great cast including: Seth Rogan, Ray Liotta, Michael Pena and Anna Faris.

One thing I like about this movie is it’s real. It’s has happiness as well anger and depression. Just like real life. Things people can relate to. An example of this is the fact that Ronnie has Bipolar Disorder. It inflicts on his everyday life and he has to deal. Another example of this is that he still lives in his mother’s house and takes care of her because she is an alcoholic.

Another thing I like about this movie is aside from all seriousness the movie is still funny. Even when there is a serious scene going on they still make humor of it. An example of this is when Ronnie’s mom is very drunk and falls on the floor passed out. In real life this probably wouldn’t be such a hilarious moment. In the movie it was. They made you look at it in more of an accepting and understanding way, bringing more light into the situation.

I really loved this movie. It was very well done. I would definitely recommend this movie to someone with a good sense of humor. I wouldn’t recommend you watch it if you have a conservative sense of humor. Overall this movie was especially great. It will make you laugh and it will make you sad.
